Talan Research Center's Exciting Path Towards HRS4R Accreditation

Talan Research Center has embarked on a journey to obtain the HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) accreditation, a European label that recognizes research institutions committed to providing excellent working conditions and career development opportunities for researchers.
Our commitment to upholding the HRS4R principles is a testament to our dedication to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and innovative research environment. By aligning our practices with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, we aim to make our research center an even more attractive and sustainable place for researchers to thrive.
To achieve this goal, we have developed a comprehensive action plan that addresses areas requiring improvement. Some of the key actions we will implement include:
- Establishing a robust ethical review process for all research projects.
- Providing access to professional development opportunities and resources for our researchers.
- Strengthening our commitment to open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment practices.
- Improving our research environment and working conditions to better support our researchers.

The HRS4R process involves three phases :
Initial, Implementation, and Renewal. In the Initial phase, institutions register, submit an application, and receive the HR Award. The Implementation phase, occurring two years later, assesses the Initial Action Plan and introduces a Revised Action Plan for the next three years. Renewal phases, recurring every three years, evaluate the Revised Action Plan, introduce an Improved Action Plan, and include site visits in alternating cycles.

Initial assessment
Since May 2024, Talan has held this accreditation. It is the first private company to obtain it in France. A new phase of implementing key actions, lasting approximately two years, is therefore beginning.
The initial actions implemented include transparency in the recruitment process, the development and dissemination of an ethical charter for research projects conducted by the center, and a clear mapping of responsibilities.
Within this framework, a structured action plan has also been developed to identify priority areas for improvement and define the measures to be implemented in the coming period. This action plan, compliant with the requirements of the EURAXESS HRS4R label, ensures structured monitoring of the commitments made and guides their gradual implementation.

Interim review after two years of implementation of the HRS4R action plan
Two years after obtaining the label, an interim review phase is carried out to assess the progress of the actions undertaken and to identify additional areas for improvement. This step makes it possible to analyze the progress achieved, consolidate the actions implemented, and identify new priorities in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
Based on this review, an updated action plan has been developed to continue and strengthen the implementation of the HRS4R strategy. This new action plan defines the priority actions for the next period, the associated objectives, as well as the corresponding timelines and responsibilities. It is part of a continuous improvement approach aimed at ensuring transparent, ethical, and attractive human resources practices in research.
