SNCF Transilien: 120+ applications migrated to the hybrid Cloud
The Challenge
As part of the SNCF group's digital services modernization program (PRSN), SNCF Transilien needed to converge its application portfolio (around 120 applications, 750 servers) toward the hybrid Cloud, meeting the group's deadline for retiring legacy data centers (2023), while improving the agility, resilience and service quality of its information system.
The Solution
Talan supported SNCF Transilien across its entire Cloud journey: assessing the IT system's maturity level (governance, processes, skills, architecture, obsolescence), building the Cloud roadmap and target architecture principles, defining the migration plan (batches, application groups, choice of re-platforming scenarios, PaaS/CaaS refactoring or rehosting), building the business case (TCO/ROI). This included steering the migrations operationally for over 3 years, with additional support in transforming the operating model. The Talan team mobilized one manager and two senior consultants.
The Impact
The program migrated SNCF Transilien's application portfolio to the public Cloud, reducing the number of incidents per year by 35% on one of the functional domains. We also helped reduced hosting costs by 40% per year and expedited the average time in building a new application from 1.5 years to 8 months.
